Dr. Rene Wingerter
Dr. Rene Wingerter always had a certain way with animals—ever since she can remember, she’s felt an intrinsic connection with the earth’s creatures that just wouldn’t quit. When talking with a friend in the sixth grade about what she wanted to do when she grew up, young Dr. Wingerter mentioned that she loved animals and medicine. The friend inquired why she didn’t consider pursuing veterinary medicine. Dr. Wingerter never looked back! Now, she’s the owner and chief veterinarian here at the Animal Hospital of Lanesville.
Dr. Wingerter grew up in Oaklandon, Indiana and moved with her family to a suburb of Indianapolis when she was in the fourth grade. She attended Purdue University for her collegiate studies, earning her undergraduate degree in agriculture in three years and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in four. On a cold, snowy day in January of 1988, Dr. Wingerter founded the Animal Hospital of Lanesville and has been helping the pets and animal owners of this area ever since!
At home, Dr. Wingerter and her husband, Steve, share their lives with their wonderful daughter, Melissa, as well as several pets. The family has four dogs—Gracie, a Dachshund who loves people, warmth, and food; a Beagle/Jack Russell terrier mix named Lacie with a penchant for digging and hunting; Rufus the Mastiff; and a sweet Labrador named Libby who Dr. Wingerter inherited from a client—as well as three cats who go by Rascal, George, and Lucy.
When time permits between family life and her duties here at the clinic, Dr. Wingerter loves to go backpacking—she and her husband hiked 70 miles of the Appalachian Trail in one week!—and scuba diving with her husband and daughter.
